347 Kent Street
The 347 Kent Street project involves refurbishing a heritage building on Kent Street. In 2016, during his time at Woods Bagot, Brian developed the concept design and submitted the Development Application (DA) for the project. The scope includes redesigning the podium levels and refurbishing office floors from Level 01 to Level 20 for Investa, focusing on upgrading interiors and services while creating new entries and an enhanced facade to attract future tenants.
The City of Sydney Council raised concerns during the DA process about the proposed channel glass facade, questioning its compatibility with the solid masonry of the street and misalignment with adjacent heritage items. Despite these issues, the DA was approved with conditions that required further information on how heritage considerations were being addressed.
Brian assisted in preparing for the pre-DA meeting and compiling documents for Section 96, now known as Modify Development under Section 4.55, to clarify design intent. He refined the facade design using a detailed 'point cloud' survey to resolve alignment issues and retained the channel glass, now featuring fritted patterns for added depth, privacy, and a tribute to the solidity of surrounding heritage buildings.
